Tender Funerals Australia is a Non-Profit organisation that enables and empowers Australians to have access to affordable, meaningful funerals by supporting new and existing Tender Funerals Services across the country.

Who Are We?

Tender Funerals is a not-for-profit funeral service that ensures that those experiencing financial hardship/distress are able to access personalised, meaningful and affordable funerals. We also provide community education and empowerment around after death care.

We provide a full range of services across after death care, funeral/celebration arrangements and body disposal options – many based on sustainable principles – which enable you to have a much greater say in how your loved one is treated after death. We encourage practices that promote healing.

A community venture, we operate in ways that do not leave community members with large debt. We don’t take shortcuts and always put people and relationships first.

 How Can I Support Tender?

Tender Funerals would greatly appreciate any kind of support,  financial or otherwise. 
Tender Funerals Australia was established in 2019 to support, resource and replicate a network of Tender Funerals services across Australia.
Previous to this, Tender Funerals existed as a stand-alone funeral service in Port Kembla called Tender Funerals Illawarra and Sydney (now called Tender Funerals Illawarra) as a service offered by Our Community Project (OCP), a local community hub in Port Kembla. However, as interest grew from other communities in Australia, Tender Funerals Australia was formed as an independent not-for-profit company, to enable new service sites to form.
Thus a Tender Funerals Network began to form, with Tender Funerals Australia working alongside both operational service sites and newly establishing service sites to offer Tender Funerals services in diverse regions of Australia. This network serves to support each other as well, with the sharing of expertise and feedback as an important exchange in the ongoing development of Tender Funerals across the country.
Tender Funerals Australia provides Network members with key intellectual property, capacity building and specialised training. It has an activating role in:
        • network growth
        • site support and advice
        • training
        • network administration
        • policy development
        • advocating
        • troubleshooting
Tender Funerals Australia has its own Board of Directors (link) . We have 4 direct employees (link) and we also subcontract OCP to support us in some operational functions.

 

What Do We Need?

As a not-for-profit, Tender Funerals Australia needs ongoing funding to continue to provide our role in the network and to give more communities the opportunity to establish a Tender Funerals in their area. We particularly are seeking:
·  Funding partners and philanthropic support
·  Volunteers with skills in marketing, large scale fundraising and grant writing
·  Donations

    Tender Funerals, established in 2016, is Australia’s first franchised non-profit funeral service, providing services on an at-cost pricing model, enabling families to have an authentic and affordable funeral service without going into large amounts of debt.

    In 2020, Tender Funerals Australia was established, with the sole purpose to support communities to establish a Tender Funerals service in their own areas.
