At Tender Funerals, we believe funerals and funeral care should be meaningful, authentic, and affordable.

Who Are We?

Tender Funerals is a not-for-profit funeral service that ensures that those experiencing financial hardship/distress are able to access personalised, meaningful and affordable funerals. We also provide community education and empowerment around after-death care.

We provide a full range of services across after-death care, funeral/celebration arrangements and body disposal options – many based on sustainable principles – which enable you to have a much greater say in how your loved one is treated after death. We encourage practices that promote healing.

A community venture, we operate in ways that do not leave community members with large debt. We don’t take shortcuts and always put people and relationships first.

Where Are We Up To?

We are currently developing our operational site and look forward to opening our doors to the community for death care and funerals shortly. In the meantime, we offer events and resources to empower and educate the community in this space. We look forward to announcing our new location soon and expect to be operational in early 2024. Presently, we are recruiting key staff and are expanding our volunteer pool, with new volunteers joining us from Canberra, Braidwood, Goulburn, Collector and more. We are immensely grateful for the level of support we’ve received from the community, especially from the Snow Foundation, Braidwood Community Bank and Hands Across Canberra. We look forward to bringing this much-needed service to the Canberra Region.

 

What Do We Need?

We would appreciate the ongoing support from our community, especially:
      • Donations – Our goal is to raise $100,000 for our final vehicle costs and fit-out
      • Goods and Services – We’re seeking businesses who can support our fit-out with kitchen, furniture, office, storage and garden supplies.
      • Vehicle – Can you help with sourcing our vehicle? Or providing vehicle signage?
      • Subscribe – Sign up to our newsletter, Facebook and Instagram accounts to get the latest on what’s been achieved and upcoming volunteer opportunities
      • Attend – We run community events regularly, including our Science of Dying, Death and Disposal with Libraries ACT

 Find Out More About Tender

Tender Funerals, established in 2016, is Australia’s first franchised non-profit funeral service, providing services on an at-cost pricing model, enabling families to have an authentic and affordable funeral service without going into large amounts of debt.

In 2020, Tender Funerals Australia was established, with the sole purpose to support communities to establish a Tender Funerals service in their own areas.
