At Tender Funerals, we believe funerals and funeral care should be meaningful, authentic, and affordable.

Who Are We?

Tender Funerals is a not-for-profit funeral service that ensures that those experiencing financial hardship/distress are able to access personalised, meaningful and affordable funerals. We also provide community education and empowerment around after death care.

We provide a full range of services across after death care, funeral/celebration arrangements and body disposal options – many based on sustainable principles – which enable you to have a much greater say in how your loved one is treated after death. We encourage practices that promote healing.

A community venture, we operate in ways that do not leave community members with large debt. We don’t take shortcuts and always put people and relationships first.

Tender Funerals Gippsland is based in Gippsland, Victoria which covers the four shires of Latrobe, Wellington, South Gippsland and Baw Baw and represents approximately 230,000 people.
We are not able to offer funerals yet, but we are in the exciting process of setting up to offer funerals in Gippsland soon. So far a working group has created a Board of Directors and together we are 18 dedicated volunteers! We have become incorporated and are about to submit the paperwork with the ACNC for our not-for-profit status.  We are very grateful to have had a building generously made available to us on a peppercorn rent for fifteen years. We have had a van donated to Tender Funerals Gippsland and although it will require some work, it is another sign of the warm and kind support from our community.

What Do We Need?

What we need right now are volunteers with experience who will consider contributing their skills and expertise with:
        • media (social media and printed media), fundraising, grant writing
        • volunteer coordination
        • gardening
        • painting
        • basic building skills
We would also welcome any volunteers who have a background with palliative care, nursing, social welfare work or grief work. Finally, we would appreciate any enthusiastic community members who are motivated to take part in this new venture and put their print on Tender Funerals Gippsland!

 Find Out More About Tender

Tender Funerals, established in 2016, is Australia’s first franchised non-profit funeral service, providing services on an at-cost pricing model, enabling families to have an authentic and affordable funeral service without going into large amounts of debt.

In 2020, Tender Funerals Australia was established, with the sole purpose to support communities to establish a Tender Funerals service in their own areas.
