Tender Hunter Central Coast

At Tender Funerals, we believe funerals and funeral care should be meaningful, authentic, and affordable.

Who Are We?

Tender Funerals is a not-for-profit funeral service that ensures that those experiencing financial hardship/distress are able to access personalised, meaningful and affordable funerals. We also provide community education and empowerment around after death care.

We provide a full range of services across after death care, funeral/celebration arrangements and body disposal options – many based on sustainable principles – which enable you to have a much greater say in how your loved one is treated after death. We encourage practices that promote healing.

A community venture, we operate in ways that do not leave community members with large debt. We don’t take shortcuts and always put people and relationships first.

Where Are We Up To?

 How Can I Support Tender?

Tender Funerals would greatly appreciate any kind of support,  financial or otherwise.
Tender Funerals Hunter Coast is based in the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle areas encompassing Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, The Hunter region, and the Central Coast, representing approximately 1.37 million people.
We currently are not able to offer funerals as yet but have a strong core working party who are our dedicated Board of Directors and we are in the process of becoming incorporated.

What Do We Need?

  • Volunteers! We would welcome any volunteers and enthusiastic community members to become Friends of Tender.  This includes potential funding partners and individuals with various skill sets that will assist us in moving forward as a team.
  • A Chartered Accountant to assist with auditing and governance.
  • We are looking for a building that may be council or community owned that can be zoned to use for a funeral home and mortuary in our service area.
  • Donors and funding partners. We have a hybrid finance model, so we are willing to work with donors and investors as part of our model to raise finance that can be commercially viable both ways to our project.
  • Property is expensive in our areas and a significant hurdle; we hope council and government bodies can assist us, including grants.
  • Two vehicles at a cost of approximately $100,000. Donors for these would be greatly appreciated and highly beneficial to our region’s start-up service needs.
