Set against the stunning backdrop of the industrial seaside town of Port Kembla NSW, a feisty and resilient community group have determined to take back the responsibility that most of us leave to somebody else – to care for their own dead. As their plans for community-based funerals gather momentum one of their own is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Tender is at once a heartbreakingly beautiful and funny glimpse of an extraordinary community taking on one of the most essential challenges of human life…its end.

Following the Tender film screening there will be an opportunity to ask questions and hear about our plans for a not-for-profit, community-led Tender Funerals service in the Greater Eastern Melbourne area.

A meaningful funeral is one that reflects the wishes of the person who has died, their family and community. What this looks like is different for everyone. For some people this might mean decorating the coffin or having a family member lead the funeral ceremony. For others, it’s the opportunity to be involved in the washing or dressing of their loved one.

Tender Funerals is a not-for-profit funeral service that ensures everyone, particularly people experiencing financial hardship, can access personalised, meaningful and affordable funerals.

During this informative workshop, we will share our plans for a Tender Funerals service in the Greater Eastern Melbourne area and lots of useful information about the rights and choices available to you in community based funeral care.
