At Tender Funerals, we believe funerals and funeral care should be meaningful, authentic, and affordable.

Who Are We?

Tender Funerals is a not-for-profit funeral service that ensures that those experiencing financial hardship/distress are able to access personalised, meaningful and affordable funerals. We also provide community education and empowerment around after death care.

We provide a full range of services across after death care, funeral/celebration arrangements and body disposal options – many based on sustainable principles – which enable you to have a much greater say in how your loved one is treated after death. We encourage practices that promote healing.

A community venture, we operate in ways that do not leave community members with large debt. We don’t take shortcuts and always put people and relationships first.

Where Are We Up To?

 How Can I Support Tender?

Tender Funerals would greatly appreciate any kind of support,  financial or otherwise.
Tender Funerals was invited into our Tasmanian community in 2019. As a group of committed volunteers, we have worked tirelessly since this time to raise funds, awareness and support to establish the Tender Funerals model of care in our state, enabling greater choice with access to affordable, beautiful and meaningful funerals for everyone.

Our first Crowdfunding campaign was held in 2021 and we thank and acknowledge all donations received. This campaign provided the foundation from which we could begin to bring our vision into being with this vision needing to change over time.

Currently, we are aiming to establish two smaller funeral homes to service Northern and Southern Tasmania and at a later date, one to service the North West and West Coast communities. We hope to engage a Tasmanian company to build relocatable pods – our ‘Tiny Tenders’.
You can follow our story on our Facebook page.

What Do We Need?

Philanthropic donations

Unlike some other Australian States, Tasmania does not have large philanthropic foundations to apply for funding to. Philanthropic support however can also come through smaller one off donations from individuals and businesses and collectively they can assist us to meet our goal. Philanthropy in any form is always welcome and greatly assists in lowering the cost of funerals.

Building or Land

We urgently need a building or land (preferably serviced) that we be given as a donation, or can purchase at low cost or lease for a nominal fee. The land would need to have a place where our relocatable pods can be housed. Areas for consideration include Longford/Perth, Eastern Shore in Southern Tasmania or Brighton and Penguin/Burnie.

Fundraising and Funding Partnerships

We would appreciate anyone with a funding partnership idea, or someone who can volunteer their fundraising skills and experience. If you would like to donate something now, please click the donate button below.

Trades

People who can donate their labour when set up is required for electrical and plumbing work.

Vehicles

Up to three vans will be required to be fitted out for funeral transport purposes.
